a place to call home
Hosanna House of Michigan has developed a sustainable program to address the need for safe, affordable, supported housing for youth aging out of foster care: Rehabilitate abandoned housing in areas close to colleges and jobs, rent bedrooms to target population at an affordable rate, $350.00 per month, and provide life-skills training and adult assistance as needed while encouraging and supporting their independence. Rent revenue is used to support, grow and sustain our programs.
Youth spend 1 year in one of our transitional living homes while they learn life skills and transition into one of the 2 or 3 bedroom homes for an additional 2 years while they apply the life skills they have learned. At the end of those 2 years youth will be given an opportunity to purchase one of these homes for $25,000.00. The revenue raised from the sale of each home will be used to renovate the next home.
Our program provides an opportunity for youth to "learn" how to live on their own and sustain a roof over their head while gaining confidence in their own decisions and abilities. Our program allows youth time to focus on their education, and their health and well being, as well as finding gainful employment.
Home renovations are completed through volunteers.
